Job Description:

Job Title: Housemistress (Girls’ Boarding)

Location: Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School

Responsible to: Deputy Head (Pastoral)

Salary: Competitive, in line with skills and experience + accommodation

Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School is situated in a spectacular rural location in the Lune Valley, an ideal place for living out the ethos of allowing children to be children. We strive to realise the potential in all of our pupils, from the classroom to the stage, or to the sports pitch.

At this exciting time in the School’s development, we are now seeking an exceptional individual to take up the hugely rewarding role of Housemistress for Girls’ Boarding from September 2022.

Boarding numbers have remained strong in recent years; the strength of the boarding community and the impact that it has upon the rest of the Prep School is profound, and the Houseparent for Girls’ Boarding will play a large part in its continued success.

Our ideal candidate will be friendly, approachable, dedicated and adaptable, with a passion for pastoral care and a commitment to the ethos of modern boarding. Key to the role will be high levels of emotional intelligence, stamina, and the ability to deal with both parents and pupils sympathetically and with empathy. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding communication skills at all levels of the organisation, with the ability to both lead and work seamlessly within a wider team.

For this high-profile and influential post, the School is committed to finding the very highest calibre of candidate and would therefore welcome applications from a variety of different applicants. As such, the role may represent an exciting opportunity for a primary or secondary specialist teacher who is looking to combine teaching and pastoral duties, or equally an unqualified but pastorally gifted and experienced individual, who would focus on this aspect of the post without teaching responsibility.

Accommodation will be available with the position.

Please note: We welcome female applicants only as this is a girls’ boarding house. This is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act.

The post is available from September 2022.

To find out more about this vacancy please visit the School website or contact the HR Department on hradmin@sedberghschool.org.

The closing date for applications will be 5.00pm on Friday 28th January 2022

First round interviews will be via Zoom, commencing on Monday 7th February. School-based interviews are planned to take place from Monday 21st February onwards.

Please note that due to the needs of the School and the department, we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date. This job may also close early if a large number of applications are received. You are advised to submit your application as early as possible to avoid missing your chance to apply

We look forward to hearing from you.
