Cherwell College Oxford is a specialist Sixth Form College (A-level & GCSE) based in the heart of Oxford.

The College is entirely student focused, recognising that everyone is different and there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all teaching.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Deputy Head of Boarding to support house operations and create a positive and caring atmosphere for our students at our modern Student Residence. The role involves all matters relating to pastoral care and welfare of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Boarding.
  • Provide pastoral care and support to students, addressing their well-being and personal needs.
  • Be aware of the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools
  • Ensure safety of all boarders.
  • Establish and enforce house rules and routines.
  • Maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff.
  • Oversee activities, outings, and events for students.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, including academic and personal support.
  • Address any student concerns or disciplinary matters with empathy and fairness.
  • Maintain records and reports related to the boarding house and student welfare.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; relevant educational or counselling qualifications are a plus.
  • Previous experience in residential life, student support, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine care for the well-being of students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • First Aid, Fire Safety, Administration of Medication, Safeguarding and Prevent courses – refresher courses are available.

Working pattern: 5 to 6 days a week term-time plus half-terms and Easter

Based on 42-week contract running mid-August to end of June each year
