Course outline:

Young people are growing up in a world in which they are very likely to encounter drugs, alcohol and vaping. They need to know the facts about what they might encounter and also how they can avoid dangerous activities. This seminar is designed to improve the knowledge of those who are teaching, and supporting, young people to navigate through these issues.

Training topics will include:

Recent trends in alcohol, drug and vape use
The facts associated with substance misuse
The effects of substance misuse
The law relating to substance misuse
Appropriate support for those encountering difficulties involving substance misuse
Agencies that can offer further support

Learning outcomes:

The ability to teach about the facts and effects of alcohol, drugs and vaping.
To be able to answer questions confidently when asked about substance misuse.
To be able to offer appropriate support to a young person who is encountering difficulties due to substance misuse and to know when it must be escalated.
