BSA virtual day seminar – Boarding on a budget – the Prep school market

11 November 2021 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

11 November @ 10.30am – 3.30pm

Course Outline

This seminar will consider current trends and good practice in boarding facilities for junior/prep boarders. Our younger boarders often experience different facilities than their older counterparts, so this seminar focuses on those: dorm rooms and shared bedrooms, softer spaces to create a clear ‘home away from home’, common rooms and spaces for homework. By considering trends and quality examples, attendees will be able to identify solutions and areas for improvement from other schools. This seminar, led by BSA Chief Executive, Robin Fletcher, will help prep schools better understand the key elements of a good boarding house for junior boarders, and plan their house development accordingly.

Training topics will include:

  • The needs of junior/prep boarders
  • The importance of good boarding facilities
  • Key boarding house areas for junior/prep boarders – step by step look at areas including welcome, entrance, walls, corridors, noticeboards
  • Key boarding house areas for junior/prep boarders – social spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms
  • Practical suggestions – key tips and places to buy good value items for boarding houses.

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of boarding facilities, house decoration, furniture, and equipment across the boarding sector
  • Guidance on low-cost ways to improve boarding houses
