BSA training session – Mental health considerations for junior boarders

28 April 2022 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

  • Date: April 28, 2022
  • Time: 09:30 – 11:30
  • Cost: Full member – £100, Non-member £200
  • Audience: All Senior Leadership, Pastoral staff and wider school team.

During this two-hour session, delegates will discuss the wellbeing and mental health issues faced by junior boarders and, in preparation for senior boarding, look at the pressures and risks faces by teenagers. As modern boarding (‘being away from home’) becomes increasingly flexible at the junior level, consideration needs to be given to how boarding staff can offer care and support to the boarders in their care and how they can prepare younger boarders most effectively for the next stages of boarding life.

Training topics will include:

  • The issues junior boarders face
  • The pressures faced by teenagers
  • What skills do they need?

Learning outcomes:

  • Ideas to support junior boarders
  • A greater understanding of building resilience in young people.
