We believe that girls who are happy and healthy are much more likely to achieve their goals and aspirations.
Our aim is to educate our students about how to look after themselves and to develop relevant self-care strategies. We want them to be aware of when they are struggling; to have strategies that they can use and to have the confidence to speak to someone when they may need extra help. We are fortunate to have had a clinical psychologist working at St Swithun’s for 10 years.
As the current postholder moves on we are looking for a dedicated and proactive specialist to champion mental health within our school community. Our focus on wellbeing and pastoral care was recognised in 2023 by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools, who awarded us the Gold standard for outstanding mental health and wellbeing provision.
Our clinical psychologist will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the governance of psychological practice at St Swithun’s, as well as providing individual psychological assessments and therapeutic support to pupils with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. They will work across the prep and senior schools as needed.
The clinical psychologist will have line management responsibility for the school counsellor (a new role to the school). They will report to, and work closely with, the deputy head pastoral (designated safeguarding lead), and have a central role in the school’s pastoral team.
The closing date for applications is 9am, Monday 9 June 2025.
