DLD College London is a unique 21st century 14-19 co-ed boarding and day school, situated on the Southbank opposite the Palace of Westminster, and is one of the most modern and well-equipped schools in the UK. The Principal is looking to invite exceptional and enthusiastic Business graduates with vision and expertise to support the college’s dynamic Business Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Like all colleagues at DLD, the teacher is responsible for providing a friendly, stimulating, and inclusive environment in which every student can develop academically, socially, and personally.

With the guidance of the Head of Department, the Teacher is responsible for the complete and timely delivery of the subject syllabus, using a variety of teaching strategies to engage and challenge all students and meet their needs. The Teacher of Business is responsible for their students’ academic progress in the subject and must:

  • Ensure that students are taught in line with the most up to date examination specification.
  • Adhere to the departmental schemes of work
  • Keep records of the students’ attendance in lessons via SIMS
  • Follow the guidelines for:
    • high quality teaching as defined in the Staff Handbook
    • setting, marking, and assessing work as stated in the staff handbook
    • use of resources; checking of student files; learning support; use of ICT; health and safety procedures
    • classroom management as defined in the school’s classroom management and behaviour policy
  • Attend in-service training and classroom observation plus feedback sessions as requested by the Head of Department.
  • To prepare students for exams and participate in exam arrangements
  • Ensure that coursework deadlines and internal and external exam arrangements are clearly communicated to students
  • Contribute fully to the wider life of a busy boarding and day school

Each teacher should always:

  • set excellent standards of punctuality, speech, and manner
  • dress in a professional manner
  • seek to make the classroom and school environment friendly, inclusive, and stimulating
  • issue instructions clearly, concisely and without ambiguity
  • listen to students and stimulate dialogue; always seek to support and encourage students and never humiliate them
  • deal promptly with any aspect of student behaviour that is to the detriment of the development of other students in the class or the school as a whole
  • ensure that the classroom is always neat, tidy, and safe and supports effective learning
  • being attentive to the safety and security of the school premises
  • have personal integrity, resilience, and emotional intelligence
  • respect and value diversity and promote equality
  • promote and model mutual respect
  • have a sense of humour

Students’ Wellbeing

  • Be vigilant for the appearance of welfare/conduct problems such as attendance, mood, appearance, punctuality etc., and inform the relevant Tutor and Housemaster/Mistress.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Qualifications: A good honours degree in an appropriate subject is essential. A teaching qualification and/or other post graduate qualification is desirable as well as the ability to teach another subject at GCSE and A level
  • Expertise and academic competence; the ability to seek, review and apply best practice. A minimum of two years’ teaching experience for those without a teaching qualification. We accept applications from ECTs and provide a programme to support their Statutory Induction period
  • A strong commitment to CPD for self-improvement and growth
  • Personal effectiveness, good time management, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, good communication, presentation, and planning skills
  • Commitment to on-going professional development and training to develop outstanding classroom practice
  • To be able to engage with and be proficient in the use of technology
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high quality teaching and learning by supporting initiatives within the Department
  • Provide outstanding pastoral care as a Tutor and be part of the school’s thriving House system
