Midleton College is seeking to appoint aΒ Head of BoardingΒ to lead, support and further develop the boarding life of the College.
This is a residential leadership role, supported by private on-campus accommodation, a meaningful salary and the opportunity to make a wider contribution to the life of the school.
Midleton College is a long-established co-educational boarding and day post-primary school in East Cork, Ireland, with a strong tradition of pastoral care, community and holistic education. The boarding community includes both 5-day and 7-day boarders, with students drawn from the local area, across Ireland and overseas.
Boarding plays a central role in the life of the College and is entering an exciting phase of development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead an established boarding community while also contributing to its future growth, culture and strategic direction.
The Role
The Head of Boarding will work closely with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that boarding students experience a safe, structured, supportive and enjoyable environment in which they can thrive academically, socially and personally.

  • supporting the continued development and promotion of boarding within the wider school community;
  • contributing to the wider life of the College in an area appropriate to the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications and interests.
The role is residential in nature and requires flexibility to support the needs of a boarding community outside normal school hours. Appropriate staffing structures, routines and time-off arrangements will form part of the final role design.

This may include involvement in one or more of the following areas:
  • sport;
  • co-curricular activities;
  • student support;
  • boarding development;
  • admissions;
  • teaching, where appropriate;
  • chaplaincy or the role of College Chaplain, where appropriate.
Applications are welcomed from candidates with experience in boarding, residential care, pastoral leadership, education, sport, chaplaincy, youth work or related fields.
Accommodation
A significant feature of the role is the availability of private on-campus accommodation as part of the overall residential package.
The accommodation consists of a detached residence on the school campus and may be particularly attractive for a couple, family or a candidate considering relocation to Ireland.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
  • experience working with young people in a residential, pastoral, educational or boarding setting;
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues;
  • calm, consistent and professional judgement;
  • strong organisational and leadership abilities;
  • commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding;
  • experience managing staff or leading teams;
  • the ability to contribute positively to the wider life of a boarding school community.
Previous boarding experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.
