The Royal Alexandra and Albert School exists to give our children a distinctly different start in life, preparing them for the world with hope, optimism, compassion and empathy.
We are a co-educational, non-selective state boarding school, for boys and girls aged 7 – 18. This is a boarding school with Flexi Boarding students attending from the local area and a lively community of around 300 Full Boarders, passionately involved in a wide range of after-school and weekend activities and trips.
Our Ofsted inspection of March 2024 states ”pupils are happy and well cared for at Royal Alexandra and Albert School. They benefit from positive relationships with staff across the school. Pupils feel safe, confident that if they report any concerns or worries they will be dealt with”.
As our Co-Curricular and Performing Arts programmes continue to flourish, we are seeking a high-calibre graduate to join our team as a Graduate Musician.

About the Role
The Graduate Musician plays a pivotal role in the vibrant creative life of RAAS. This unique position blends high-level accompaniment and rehearsal support with the essential administrative coordination required to operate a complex music department, ensemble schedule, and performance list. The successful candidate will act as a technical role model in music lessons and live concerts, serving as an operational engine for our Performing Arts team.

Located within our beautiful 260-acre estate, the school offers a welcoming, high-expectation, and purposeful environment where our boarding provision was recently judged as ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted, 2025).
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the principal accompanist across the department, supporting curriculum lessons, student rehearsals, practical examinations, and VMT lessons.
- Assist Performing Arts staff in delivering academic music lessons, leading targeted theory/composition clinics for beginners, and supporting high-performance music scholars with 1-to-1 tuition and prep.
- Assist in directing existing music ensembles, with the collaborative scope to establish new ensembles that reflect your personal musical passions.
- Provide vital musical support for community and church services at key times throughout the academic year.
- Act as a mentor to student-musicians to help them balance intensive performance commitments with their academic responsibilities.
- Proactively participate in the wider life of the boarding community by fulfilling weekly evening duties in a designated boarding house and contributing to the weekend activity rota.
We are looking for someone who
- Holds a recent Honours Degree in Music or a closely related field.
- Displays exceptional keyboard and accompaniment skills (essential for our All-Steinway status), with choral or instrumental conducting experience being highly desirable.
- Possesses a high-energy, “can-do” attitude with exceptional attention to detail.
- Connects naturally with young people and is eager to pursue a career in teaching, directing, or professional music making.
- Is proactive, highly organised, and has the spark necessary to inspire students within a busy, high-energy boarding environment.
