We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled nurse to join our Medical Centre team, based within the Allardice Centre.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will provide expert medical care and advice to students throughout the School. The Medical Centre is an integral part of our sector-leading pastoral care.  This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a vibrant and welcoming school community.

The team consists of a small team of Duty Nurses led by the Lead Nurse, working closely with the Head of Wellbeing, external GPs and the wider Wellbeing Team including CBT Therapists, a Life Coach and Clinical Psychologists.

Key Aspects of the Job
• Looking after the health and wellbeing of students aged 5 – 18 years old (including both day students and boarders).
• Working on an appointment system, responding to a wide range of needs including minor ailments/illnesses, management of health conditions, asthma reviews, allergy support, mental health and wellbeing support.
• Supporting external GPs with various clinical tasks such as venipuncture and wound management.
• Administering routine vaccines in accordance with the NHS school vaccination program, including DTP, MenACWY, HPV, MMR and seasonal Flu vaccines.
• Analysis and assessment of the students’ condition to establish continuing care, making autonomous decisions with appropriate referrals, and providing advice to students, staff and parents.
• Providing clinical and professional advice to students, parents and other members of the team and teaching staff where required. Opportunities to take part in classroom-based teaching sessions and teaching inset days.
• Assessing any change in students’ condition and ensure appropriate action is taken. Good understanding of medical confidentiality, abiding by national guidelines such as GIRFEC.
• Attendance at games fixtures as required.
• Maintaining close working relationships with boarding house staff, wider teaching staff and various operational departments is required daily.

Working Arrangements

The role is term time. The team work shifts, following a 4-week rolling rota (39 hours per week). The role holder will be required to work shifts of varying lengths (rotas include both short and long shifts) and 2 weekends per month. 6 weeks paid holidays (taken during school holidays).
