Understanding adolescence – teenage boys

Course outline: 

This seminar supports pastoral staff working primarily with teenage boys, who want to increase their understanding of how best to support them through their teenage years.

The day will be presented by Dr Jody Walshe, an educational and child psychologist who will explain the physiological impact of adolescence on teenage boys, including physical and emotional development. Practical recommendations for working with and supporting young men will also be discussed.

Training topics will include:

  • Adolescent brain development
  • Exploring adolescence including physical and emotional development
  • Key areas of relevance including social cognition, risk taking and identity
  • Practical skills and evidence-based approaches for working with young people.

Learning outcomes:

  • An understanding of adolescent brain development
  • An understanding of the impact of adolescent brain development on social, emotional and physical development
  • Resources, tools, and strategies for use in school or a support context
