Course outline

The role of boarding staff continues to evolve in response to changing pupil needs, workforce expectations, recruitment challenges and developments across the wider education and care sectors. Traditional models of boarding staffing are being reconsidered as schools look at how they recruit, structure, support and retain effective boarding teams.

This webinar will explore some of the key trends shaping the boarding workforce and what these changes mean for boarding schools. It will consider the changing expectations of boarding roles, emerging staffing models, recruitment and retention, professional boundaries, staff wellbeing and the skills increasingly required to provide high-quality pastoral care.

Delegates will be encouraged to reflect on their own staffing structures and consider how boarding teams may need to adapt to remain sustainable, attractive and effective.

Training topics will include:

  • How boarding staff roles and expectations are changing
  • Current recruitment and retention challenges
  • Changing expectations around workload, flexibility and work-life balance
  • Emerging approaches to staffing structures, rotas and residential roles
  • The increasing pastoral and safeguarding demands placed on boarding staff
  • Skills and professional development required by the modern boarding workforce
  • Staff wellbeing, support and supervision
  • Building a sustainable and attractive boarding workforce for the future
