Course outline:
This session is designed to equip boarding staff with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to meaningfully celebrate Black History Month and to embed cultural awareness into everyday life in the boarding environment and wider school community.
Fostering an inclusive culture that recognises and values Black history and contributions is key to preparing young people for life beyond school. The session will also explore practical ways to move beyond a one-month focus, encouraging a year-round commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Rebekah Hayward
Rebekah is an experienced Equity, Diversity and Inclusion consultant who has been working with IELA since April 2023 supporting, organisations and schools. She holds a Masters in Education: International Development and Social Justice and a CMI Level 7 Qualification in Strategic Approaches to EDI. She is the Co-Founder of ‘Increasing Black Representation’ a mentoring scheme for students and the Founder of ‘The Inclusion Edit’ an Inclusion consultancy. In her previous roles, Rebekah has worked in Ed Tech leading on EDI and business strategy. She has also worked with IESE leading EDI projects and developing EDI resources. Rebekah is a qualified Primary School Teacher with much experience as an EDI lead creating diverse curriculum content for schools, developing policy and creating meaningful, lasting change.
