Course outline:

This course will look at some of the key tensions within a boarding house which may lead to disputes – either β€˜in the moment’ or ongoing. We will also discuss the issue of β€˜relational aggression’ and how to identify and manage this.

Training topics will include:

  • Identifying types and causes of disputes and relationship problems between boarders.
  • Setting a positive boarding house culture.
  • When to intervene in a dispute.
  • Relational aggression.

Learning outcomes:

  • Be able to identify better disputes between boarders.
  • Form new ideas for how to set a positive boarding culture to enable early intervention.
  • Understand the concept of β€˜relational aggression’ and develop strategies to combat it within your school.

Speaker:

David Walker, Executive Director, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB

David is the Executive Director, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOBΒ  and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East.
