Course outline:

There are many things a school may need to consider if a student is not โ€˜fit to boardโ€™. This may include the young personโ€™s own safety and wellbeing, along with that of the others in a boarding house. Increasingly, schools have found it useful to write a โ€˜fit to boardโ€™ policy and this course is designed to help schools consider if this would be helpful in their context and how to put together such a policy.

Training topics will include:

  • The reasons why people may not be โ€˜fit to boardโ€™.ย
  • Balancing needs in a boarding house.ย
  • Providing continuity of education and other legal considerations.ย
  • Working with parents.ย
  • Considerations when writing policy.ย

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand some reasons why a young person might not be fit to board.ย
  • Know the legal framework around education provision.ย
  • Be guided in producing a school policy on fitness to board.ย
