Course outline:

This seminar, led by Richard Harman, CEO, AGBIS will look at serious cases and crises in schools from the perspective of governance. It will cover the nature of a ‘typical’ school crisis including recent patterns and trends. We will then look at how good planning can help prepare for when a crisis occurs and how best to respond and work with senior leadership to navigate a crisis successfully.

Training topics will include:

  • Overview of some common issues occurring in schools, particularly in recent years.
  • Planning for crises.
  • Appropriate questioning for senior leadership when a crisis occurs.
  • Managing boundaries to maintain the governor’s strategic role.
  • Supporting senior leadership during a crisis.
  • Further reporting – who, and how to report.

Learning outcomes

  • Know how to plan for a school crisis
  • Be able to respond appropriately when a crisis occurs
  • Understand how to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team when a crisis occurs.
