Course outline:

For serving personnel and veterans, the question of ‘what next?’ can be daunting. At first glance, a service career and boarding education might appear worlds apart. But look more closely and the parallels are striking: residential communities, high expectations of personal conduct, strong pastoral responsibility and leadership exercised through daily presence.

Your experience is not just relevant, it is actively sought. As a result, over the past few years, a growing number of veterans have moved into education, particularly boarding, and there is increasing recognition of the crossover between the sectors. There are also non-teaching opportunities that do not require degrees.

Join Mark Mortimer, Director of Defence & Military Services, Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) to find out more. Mark is an ex-Infantry Officer and has served as Head at three leading boarding schools.

  • Find out more about opportunities to work in residential education – no degree needed.
  • Ask questions you may have about roles and responsibilities in boarding schools.
  • Hear Mark Mortimer, ex-boarding school Headteacher and ex-Infantry Officer explain the synergies between service life and school life.
  • Understand how you can enrol onto the BSA’s resettlement programme.
