Course outline:

Safeguarding is a fundamental responsibility of school governors, and understanding how to respond appropriately to disclosures, allegations and low-level concerns is essential to effective governance. Boarding environments present particular challenges, including close relationships between staff and pupils, residential arrangements and professional boundaries. This webinar will explore governors’ safeguarding responsibilities, the distinction between allegations that meet the harm threshold and low-level concerns, and the importance of transparent, consistent and proportionate responses as well as record-keeping. Governors will consider how to provide effective oversight, ensure appropriate procedures are followed and foster a culture in which concerns are recognised, reported and addressed.

Training topics:
  • Understanding the statutory safeguarding responsibilities of boarding school governors
  • Appropriate responses to disclosures and allegations, including reporting and escalation procedures
  • The distinction between allegations that meet the harm threshold and low-level concerns
