Course outline:
This course will look at some of the key tensions within a boarding house which may lead to disputes โ either โin the momentโ or ongoing. We will also discuss the issue of โrelational aggressionโ and how to identify and manage this.
Training topics will include:
- Identifying types and causes of disputes and relationship problems between boarders.
- Setting a positive boarding house culture.
- When to intervene in a dispute.
- Relational aggression.
Learning outcomes:
- Be able to identify better disputes between boarders.
- Form new ideas for how to set a positive boarding culture to enable early intervention.
- Understand the concept of โrelational aggressionโ and develop strategies to combat it within your school.

David is the Executive Director, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOBย and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 yearsโ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East.
