There are many things a school may need to consider if a student is not โfit to boardโ. This may include the young personโs own safety and wellbeing, along with that of the others in a boarding house. Increasingly, schools have found it useful to write a โfit to boardโ policy and this course is designed to help schools consider if this would be helpful in their context and how to put together such a policy.
Training topics will include:
- The reasons why people may not be โfit to boardโ.ย
- Balancing needs in a boarding house.ย
- Providing continuity of education and other legal considerations.ย
- Working with parents.ย
- Considerations when writing policy.ย
Learning outcomes:
- Understand some reasons why a young person might not be fit to board.ย
- Know the legal framework around education provision.ย
- Be guided in producing a school policy on fitness to board.ย
