60 Years of Boarding Excellence

2025-26 proudly marks BSA’s 60th anniversary – six decades of championing the boarding sector since our founding in 1965. To honour this milestone, we’re launching a year-long celebration filled with special events, stories, and initiatives designed to unite the global boarding community and showcase the sector.

Much has changed over the years, but our mission to be the voice of boarding remains. Today, we are proud to represent over 4,500 schools, organisations, and individuals across more than 40 countries.

We’re inviting members to join our celebrations throughout the year and there’s plenty to get involved with…

  • #BSABear: follow Bear on a tour of BSA’s schools to meet boarders and take part in everything boarding life has to offer!
  • Boarding School Book of Remembrance (BOBOR): online record to commemorate boarders who lost their lives or served
  • #iloveboarding: share your ‘#iloveboarding because’ videos and quotes as we spread boarding positivity far and wide
  • #BoardingArchives: send us your archive photos for a dose of ’60s nostalgia as we look back at how the boarding experience has changed over the years
  • #BSABrufts: get ready for our first ever dogs’ show – think Crufts with a boarding twist!
  • #BoardingRocks: we’ve partnered with The Band Project to showcase musical talent across member schools with the chance to perform live at the Annual Conference for Heads
  • #BoardingsBestGamers: congratulations to all those who participated in our 4-week esports tournament

And much more to be announced…

🎸 Boarding Rocks

Build a band for the chance to perform live!

What is Boarding Rocks?

We’re partnering with The Band Project to showcase the brilliantly talented rock and pop musicians across our member schools! The Boarding Rocks competition is open to boarders at Prep and Senior schools with a chance to perform live at BSA’s headline conference in May 2026.

Criteria

Bands can include any combination of instruments and should have 5–10 members; larger groups may include strings, brass and wind players. Bands can be formed from Year 6 to Year 13, with each school responsible for grouping students by age and experience. All band members must be full-time, weekly or flexi boarders.

The competition

If selected to participate, each band must choose and learn two songs – one track from a BSA 60th anniversary playlist one track from The Band Project playlist. Bands will take part in three 90-minute workshops led by The Band Project. During these sessions, bands will arrange their chosen songs and build performance and ensemble skills.

Bands will film a final performance at the end of their third workshop which will be reviewed by leading UK session musicians, who will provide personalised video feedback. Two bands will be chosen to perform live at the BSA Annual Conference for Heads in Stratford-Upon-Avon, May 5-6, 2026.
