Martin Reader began his teaching career at St Edward’s Oxford, before moving to Oundle School and then to Reigate Grammar School where he was Senior Deputy Head. Martin was Head of Cranleigh for ten years, retiring in August 2024. Prior to Cranleigh he was Headmaster of Wellington School, Somerset for eight years. Passionate about boarding, he served as Chair of the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2018, and Vice Chair in 2017 and 2019. Martin has been an ISI inspector for 20 years. He served as Secretary and Chair of HMC South West division and represented the South East division on the HMC Professional Development Committee.
He is a Senior Advisor for Saxton Bampfylde, a director of Whole Education, a boarding governor at Blundell’s, a trustee of Go Chatter Studios, an associate director of the Boarding Schools’ Association and Chair of the Boarding Schools’ Association Foundation. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Institute of Boarding.
