About Woodstock School
Founded in 1854, Woodstock is Asia’s oldest international residential schools and one of its most distinctive legacy schools. A residential, coeducational community serving Grades K–12, Woodstock brings together around 450-500 students from more than 30 nations, with boarding beginning in Grade 6 and Early Years students enrolled as day scholars. Rooted in its Christian heritage and guided by Our Calling, the school integrates rigorous academics with music, arts, athletics, outdoor learning, service and community life to form resilient and compassionate young people. Graduates go on to leading universities worldwide, carrying with them the character, bold questioning and generosity of spirit shaped in the Himalaya.
Woodstock is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA) and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and offers multiple academic pathways, including the Woodstock Diploma, Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. More than credentials, however, Woodstock is defined by its whole-person model of education and its distinctive ethos of learning woven into life.
Our Calling
Woodstock School imagines education as a daring, whole-life journey. At home in the Himalaya and shaped by over 170 years of lived experience, we build on our Christian identity by raising young people with integrity and the capacity for generosity of spirit, bold questioning, and imagination; people who learn with excitement, grow in character and are ready to transform the world.
At Woodstock, learning is not confined to classrooms but woven into the whole fabric of life. We seek wisdom through study, service, creativity, friendship, the responsible use of technology and caring for the natural world.
Our accepting and nurturing community challenges and supports one another to thrive and grow in resilience, compassion and courage. Whether in academics, the arts, athletics, outdoor life, or daily living together, experiences are collaborative, formative and balanced.
In this way, knowledge deepens into understanding, character is shaped through practice and students leave Woodstock imbued with both the joy of discovery and a fierce determination to positively change the world.
Campus
Perched at 7,000 feet in Mussoorie, the 250-acre campus overlooks the Doon Valley and stretches through protected Himalayan forest. Facilities combine heritage buildings with modern academic blocks and laboratories, a performing arts centre, music school, visual arts studios, libraries, residences, pastoral care spaces, sports fields, a gymnasium, the Centre for Imagination as well as the Hanifl Centre for Outdoor and Environmental Education. The setting itself: forest trails and vibrant community life, is central to the Woodstock experience.
Living in Mussoorie
Mussoorie, known as the “Queen of the Hills,” offers clean mountain air, four distinct seasons, and a bustling town life with a wide range of restaurants, shops, and cultural activities. Just 35 km from Dehradun, it combines natural beauty with access to urban amenities and has long been a hub for both Indian and expatriate communities. Woodstock’s campus sits apart from the bustle, in Landour — a historic and protected zone renowned for its colonial-era architecture, quiet forest walks, and breathtaking Himalayan views. Landour has also long been a home for writers and artists, most famously the authors Ruskin Bond and Stephen Alter (Woodstock alumnus), giving it a rich literary and cultural heritage. This unique setting offers staff and families both the energy of a lively town nearby and the peace of a close-knit, nature-rich community in the hills.
Woodstock is undertaking an exciting period of strategic transformation, marked by organizational restructuring and a significant opportunity to redesign and enhance the school’s educational experience. To support this vision, several new leadership positions have been created, which will bring together a newly formed team charged with shaping the future of the school. For leaders who are energised by innovation, collaboration, and meaningful impact, this is a rare chance to help define a bold future for Woodstock in one of the world’s most remarkable educational settings.
