Boarding at Oakham

Boarding at Oakham offers a rich and rewarding experience that nurtures independence, resilience, and personal development. Pupils are part of age-specific Houses, each led by a Housemaster or Housemistress and supported by Resident Tutors and Matrons, creating a close-knit, caring environment. These Houses foster mentoring, leadership, and enduring friendships, while the school’s inclusive ethos inspires pupils to lead with empathy and purpose.

Life in boarding is dynamic and varied, with over 125 weekly activities ranging from drama and music to DofE, CCF, and more than 30 sports. Weekends are filled with fixtures, trips, and social events, ensuring pupils are engaged and supported beyond the classroom.

Oakham’s outstanding pastoral care includes a 24/7 medical and wellbeing centre, ensuring every pupil’s needs are met throughout their time at school. The Barraclough Dining Hall, open daily for breakfast, lunch, and supper, serves as a central gathering place where pupils from different Houses and year groups connect, share experiences, and build lasting relationships.

This holistic approach to boarding life ensures that pupils not only thrive academically but also grow into confident, compassionate individuals ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead.
