Millfield Prep
Millfield Prep’s strength lies in the belief that every child is an individual. Our vision has always been to discover and develop the talents and abilities of each child. With world class facilities, small class sizes and a breadth of subjects on offer, we aim to give every child the maximum opportunity to find their individual strengths and aim for excellence. Our rigorous academic programme is supported by a strong extra-curricular programme in the Arts, Drama, Music and Sport, including over 50 extra-curricular activities such as dance, skiing and pottery. Pupils take part in individual sports and team games and we compete in regional and national fixtures. Our outstanding facilities include an equestrian centre, an art and design centre, music school, recital hall, golf course, 25m indoor pool, tennis courts and a Learning Development Centre.
A Global Outlook
Millfield is extremely proud of its international character. We embrace pupils from all countries and believe that the rich cultural diversity of over 65 overseas pupils and approximately 25 different nationalities provides a great opportunity for pupils and staff to learn about cultural differences. Many of our international pupils receive specialised English language tuition from the English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department, who provide language support for work in academic subjects. The school is a multi-faith community where all religions are valued and practised.
Exceptional Boarding
The quality of boarding is exceptional and fully supports the school’s aim to provide excellent pastoral care for its pupils. The starting age for boarding is 7 years old. Boys and girls live separately in well-appointed houses. The boarding houses are seen by pupils very much as home rather than an extension of school and foster a genuine family feel with the care and support of their houseparents and assistant houseparents. Every weekend all boarders have the opportunity to get involved in a wide choice of activities from canoeing, trampolining and jet skiing to a trip to the wildlife park or the cinema.
A Smooth Transition to Millfield Senior School at age 13
Millfield Prep and Senior Schools enjoy a close relationship, in Year 7 pupils get to enjoy a taster day organised by Sixth Form prefects. The Prep pupils are given numerous opportunities to experience sporting or other co-curricular events.
Millfield Prep also has a Pre-Prep for children from age 2.
