Founded in 1899 by Eleanor Beatrice Wyatt, our first Headmistress, Heathfield was in the vanguard of educational establishments advocating the theory that happiness equated with academic success – a strong belief that continues to permeate throughout the school, together with the high importance placed on pastoral care.
We are focused on empowering students by encouraging exploration, creativity, curiosity and critical thinking to enable them to make a real difference to the world; drive independence and give our students the space to be themselves and develop the skills to enable them to thrive, to see that there are no limits; and to create a sense of belonging by maintaining our close-knit community, a home from home, where happiness and achievement go hand in hand.
Heathfield is a small school, offering big opportunities. Our small size enables us to ensure that every student has the opportunity to discover their own unique passions and talents, and accordingly, to develop the self-belief and confidence to succeed and ‘make her mark’. Our small class sizes and 4:1 student/teacher ratio, ensures that each student receives the best possible attention – academic and co-curricular activities and pastoral care and support.
This year, students surpassed their predicted GCSE grades by a wide margin, with a value added score of 1.2 higher than the predicted grades in each subject. This was reflected in great results across the board, including over a third of all grades awarded at 9 or 8, and over half of all grades awarded at 9-7.
Excellent A Level results meant that this year’s cohort secured their preferred places at Bristol, Durham, Birmingham, Exeter, King’s College, London, Royal Holloway, Surrey, Lancaster and the Royal Veterinary College and UCL in the UK, and international universities in Greece and Monaco and at Vermont University in the US. Their chosen subjects included Medicine, Law and Economics, Music, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Anthropology, Sport and Exercise Science, Computer Science and Politics.
Other recent top destinations include RADA, Central St Martins, Parsons Paris and New York and the University of the Arts London.
Heathfield Art students benefit from our close relationship with London College of Fashion, our Creative Partnership with Falmouth University and our unique Collaboration Agreement with Parsons Paris.
Facilities within the 36 acre tree-lined grounds includes a Theatre and Digital recording studio, STEM building, purpose built Sixth Form Centre, Leiths Cookery School, Chapel, large Sports Hall, Dance studio, Fitness suite and Spinning studio, five Lacrosse pitches, six Netball/Tennis courts and a 25m heated indoor Swimming pool.
Heathfield also enjoys a strong Equestrian profile with girls regularly and successfully competing locally, nationally and internationally at Polo, Show Jumping and Dressage.
Heathfield provides a dynamic and vibrant environment where the girls build life-long skills and friendships along with fantastic memories.
Headmaster – Jonathan Williams, MTheol Hons (St Andrews), PGCE (Oxford Brookes), joined Heathfield School in 2024, following five years as Deputy Head Academic at a prestigious British Curriculum School in Kenya. Prior to this, Jonathan’s experience of teaching and academic leadership was borne in the context of various schools across Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire, including four years at a top GSA school. Jonathan’s educational pursuits and involvements have led to his being awarded a National Professional Qualification for Headship with full marks; a Farmington Fellowship following studies at Harris Manchester College; and further collaboration and contracts with the University of Oxford and organisations such as PiXL. Jonathan’s spare time is invariably spent with family (including his three daughters), though despite the best efforts of various students, his love of sport has yet to be translated into significant progress on the lacrosse pitch!
