Harrogate Ladies’ College is a leading day and boarding school for girls aged 11-18, set in a beautiful 22 acre campus in the cosmopolitan spa town of Harrogate.
Harrogate Ladies’ College and Highfield will operate under the new name of Duchy College, Harrogate from September 2026. At the same time, we will begin the phased and sensitive extension of our co-ed provision from prep school into senior school.
Our move to a fully co-ed school will be a gradual process, handled sensitively over a number of years to minimise changes for current pupils and to ensure our co-ed provision is of the highest quality.
We will begin therefore by offering a co-ed provision in Year 7 in September 2026. This will then gradually move through the school with this intake of pupils so, in September 2027, we will be co-ed in Year 7 and Year 8 and so on moving forward each year.
We know from feedback, however, some current pupils would prefer a co-ed Sixth Form setting. For this reason, we also plan to offer a co-ed provision in Year 12 from September 2026. All other current College year groups will continue to be taught in single sex year groups as they move through school, up until Sixth Form. Visit the Sixth Form section of our website to find out more.
The size of our family of schools means that we know all our pupils as individuals, the way their parents know them. This enables us to work with them and challenge them to achieve more both inside and outside of the classroom.
Pupils achieve excellent exam results at both GCSE and A level and over 80% typically receive offers from top Russell Group universities. There are Oxbridge, Medicine and Veterinary Science preparation courses on offer, as well as a specialist Business School. All our pupils receive individual support and tutoring throughout the university application process.
Beyond the classroom, a dedicated weekend programme enables boarders to try new things, visit new places, develop new skills and build confidence. The choice of activities is wide: from cultural trips to active experiences and social events – there’s something for everyone!
Being a boarder is a unique life experience. It is a warm, nurturing, family environment which enables pupils of all ages to build independence and lifelong friendships. Our boarders come from more than 25 different countries and are fully integrated into our school community. Each boarding house has a dedicated housemistress to care for and support our pupils.
