Founded in 1656, Haberdashers’ Adams is a selective state grammar school for boarders and day pupils. Judged good by Ofsted, the school is situated in the market town of Newport, Shropshire. We welcome boys aged 11-18 (boarders and day) with girls joining as day pupils in the Sixth Form. The school will go fully co-ed from September 2024, but boarding will remain for boys only.
The school has a 350 year history of academic success and with a strong House system and an extensive list of extra-curricular activities, offers a vibrant, exciting place in which pupils can develop as confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and independent people who care for one another. The school will go fully co-ed from September 2024, but boarding will remain for boys only.
Boarding is an integral part of school life and contributes much to the ethos of the school. Adams boarders start their boarding life in Longford Hall, set within the magnificent Shropshire countryside. The beautiful English Heritage listed Georgian mansion very quickly becomes their second home providing a warm and homely environment for the boys to enjoy, together with over one hundred acres of grounds to play in. Their boarding family includes a Boarding Housemaster and his team of Matrons and Tutors, who are there to look after them and support them with their studies.

Our Senior Boarders (Years 11-13) live in Beaumaris Hall, which is just a few metres from the main school site in Newport. The purpose designed boarding house offers en-suite accommodation as well as a supper room and a large communal area where the boys can relax and enjoy spending time together. Within the safety net of the boarding community, they learn to adjust to a having a little more freedom and independence while a set prep time each night helps to ensure they pay proper attention to their work, establishing good studying habits in readiness for university.
Families interested in boarding are invited to visit the school’s boarding houses with an opportunity for prospective boarders to attend a boarding taster.
