Christ College Brecon lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foot of the Brecon Beacons on the edge of the small market town of Brecon, which is two minute’s walk away on the opposite side of the river. The river Usk flows alongside the grounds and provides good canoeing and fishing, while nearby Llangorse Lake provides the venue for sailing and windsurfing. The Beacons themselves are an ideal base for outdoor pursuits of all sorts. The school was founded by Henry VIII in 1541 and the 13th Century Chapel and Dining Hall remain at the centre of school life. The mix of important historic buildings and modern facilities chart the progress of education at the school as it has adapted to the needs of each generation of pupils. With a recently added £2M Science Centre and a new Performing Arts Centre opening in September 2013, facilities are state of the art. Each pupil is set academic targets appropriate to his or her ability and tutored closely. Supportive pastoral care is matched by personal challenge and ambition to provide a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The closeness of the community lends itself to the growth of confident, adaptable and positive young adults.
