Cherwell College Oxford is a Co-educational Tutorial College specialising in one-to-one and small group tuition for students aged between 12 – 19 years of age. The College is non-denominational and offers full-board residential accommodation or students for day study. Heathrow (55min); Luton (1.25hr); Gatwick (1.5 hr).
The College’s strength lies in combining the tutorial system of education (one-to-one tuition) with formal small group seminars, which ensures that students’ individual academic needs are supported. Cherwell students aim for the Russell Group Universities and leading International universities.
Full-time academic programmes are tailored to each student’s academic needs, tutorial classes are attended daily (usually 3 – 6 hrs per day) and supported with group seminars, supervised learning sessions, progress tests, mock exams and with private study periods in the college library.
Academic programmes include A-level and GCSE plus short-term academic programmes: Oxbridge Entrance Preparation; revision courses during Easter, Summer & Half-Term – to provide extra academic support to students currently studying in the UK.
Students select subjects from a range of Sciences: (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Maths, Further Maths, Accounting; Humanities & Social Sciences: History, Politics, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Business, Economics, Geography, English, English literature; Languages: French, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian,Spanish.
Residential students are accommodated at Cherwell House: our purpose-built student accommodation located within a short walking distance from the main study centres. The boarding facilities comprise 55 single en-suite study bedrooms with a residential welfare team for pastoral care of students. The facilities include: weekly cleaning (linen, bedding and towels supplied), dining room: full-board catering – nutritious home-cooked food, student common area, pool table, table-tennis, laundry room, Wi-Fi, water coolers, garden: basketball; BBQ; seating area; badminton; croquet; quoits; petanque and bicycle storage.

SEN provision: students are assessed when they start at Cherwell College Oxford and previous reports are considered, so that staff can understand their prior learning. This information will provide a benchmark for the development of an appropriate curriculum for each student.
When planning teaching and pastoral care, the Academic Team and the Welfare Team will set suitable learning challenges and respond to the diverse learning needs of students. Staff will take account of the special educational needs presented by the students and make provision to support individual students through planning. This will ensure that students are able to access and participate fully in the curriculum. Some students may require additional or different help from that of their peers: the Academic Team will prepare an Individual Learning Plan which is drawn up with input from the student and their parents/carers. Short term targets are recorded together with suitable strategies to enable the student to meet these targets and the expected outcome. Individual Learning Plans are reviewed each term and targets amended as appropriate to the progress of each learner.
Learners at Cherwell College Oxford who are identified with SEN are usually supported by an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP). The College employs a professional team to contribute to the learning and welfare of the students: Clinical Psychologist; Occupational Therapist; Speech & Language Therapist; Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo); Residential Welfare Officers.
