The Preparatory School has now been based in Casterton, for two years in which time it has continued to flourish; “They’ve not only survived but thrived” Good Schools Guide 2015. September 2013 saw the school open with just under 150 pupils and we have started this academic year with just under 230 (Prep School and Nursery).
The Prep School prides itself on giving children ‘the very best start to life’. Our wonderfully well-equipped school, breadth of opportunity, along with inspirational and wonderfully caring teachers mean that we have every chance of achieving this challenging aim.
We care for pupils in small classes which allows the School to get to know and understand the individual needs of each and every child. We foster their talents and nurture their growth through a broad, balanced, challenging and exciting curriculum and, in doing so, create an environment whereby each child is provided with every opportunity to fulfil their potential. We believe that emotional and social well-being, self-esteem, happiness and confidence are of prime importance and are in themselves inextricably linked to academic progress.
Set on the boundary between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks, there are few such inspirational places to live, work and learn. The wonderful environment and outstanding facilities provide a strong framework upon which the ethos of ‘allowing children to be children’ can be achieved.

Our pupils leave Sedbergh Preparatory, exiting to the Senior School, 20 minutes up the road, ready to become young adults with the confidence to make their own decisions that will enhance their lives and the lives of those around them.
