Specialist Subjects
ACS Cobham is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the IB Diploma. It also offers an American High School Diploma, and prestigious Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Sports
ACS Cobham has outstanding sports facilities, including a sports centre with 25-metre swimming pool, gymnasium, athletics track, football and rugby pitches, a 9-hole golf course, and tennis courts. ACS Cobham runs an extensive athletic programme fielding Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School teams. Our athletes compete against other international schools in the UK, and across Europe. Each season concludes with an International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST), where ACS Cobham teams have established a winning tradition. Our Athletic Department employs a coaching staff of 48 (90% being members of the teaching faculty). The Physical Education Department has eight full-time members of faculty, teaching across 1st – 12th Grades. The Kindergarten is taught by specialists in fine and gross motor skills. In addition we also provide instructional classes in a range of activities including yoga, Pilates and aerobics.
Extra Curricular
Our extensive and varied extracurricular clubs, and community service activities stimulate, as well as inspire, significant student participation in international theatre art programmes, maths, literature, and music competitions, and outreach projects both locally and around the world.
Special Needs
English as an Additional Language (EAL) teachers work closely with non-native English-speaking students in the classroom, and one-on-one or in small groups outside the classroom, to support their speaking, listening, reading and writing needs. In 9th and 10th Grades, EAL students participate in specially-designed EAL transition English, social studies, and science classes to strength their English skills with the goal to mainstream them into the High School curriculum as quickly as possible. The High School does not offer an EAL programme for beginners. Non-native English-speaking students are encouraged to maintain their native language and culture by participating in ACS Cobham’s Native Language Enrichment programme. The following seven languages are currently being taught by trained native-speaking teachers, but vary from year to year depending on the nationalities represented in the student population: Danish Swedish Norwegian Finnish Dutch German Hindi
