We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Residential Tutors (Graduate or suitably qualified Undergraduate) to join our boarding community. This role is ideal for individuals seeking valuable workplace experience in education, pastoral care, sport, or youth development, and who are keen to play an active role in the wider life of a vibrant boarding school.
Residential Tutors are key members of our pastoral team and contribute to the supervision, care, and support of students within one of our boarding houses. You will work closely with Housemasters, teaching staff, and the wider boarding team to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Boarding house supervision, including duty periods, evening routines, and weekend responsibilities
- Actively supporting and representing your allocated boarding house
- Providing academic tutoring and classroom support where appropriate
- Supporting students with diverse learning needs on a one-to-one or small group basis
- Contributing to co-curricular life, including sport, cultural, music, and outdoor activities
- Active participation in the staff Common Room and wider school community
Person Specification
The successful applicant will be:
- Responsible, independent, and trustworthy
- Motivated, reliable, and enthusiastic about working with young people
- Confident supervising students and managing responsibility, including sole charge of a boarding house at times
- Willing and able to coach sport and support cultural or outdoor programmes
- Comfortable working flexible hours as required by a residential setting
- Hold equivalent to a full New Zealand driver license (desirable, not essential)
Terms and Conditions
- Salary: $35,493.90 per annum (minimum wage equivalent), for 38 weeks of the year
- Holiday Pay: 8% of gross earnings, paid at the end of employment
- School Holidays: This is a term-time role; Residential Tutors are not paid during school holidays
