Assistant Housemistress (Boarding House) – Evenings and Weekends

Part Time

Required for September 2025

Fixed Term until early July 2026 (with the potential to becoming permanent)

We are seeking  compassionate and responsible boarding staff to join our vibrant school community for the next academic year (September 2025 – early July 2026) with the possibility of this becoming a permanent role from September 2026.

If you are looking for a rewarding role working with young people, supporting them in their residential life, ensuring a safe, engaging, and positive boarding experience – please apply today. This key role focuses on providing excellent weekend support (Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday) to our boarding students, exclusively during term time. You’ll play a vital part in creating a nurturing and enjoyable atmosphere for our students’ weekend activities and well-being.

We are flexible around shifts and will work with you to ensure we reach a working pattern suitable for everyone. Extra evening work during the week might also be available. You will assist the Housemistress in matters relating to the welfare of the House and the care of the boarders and, in their absence, you will assume responsibility

Working as boarding staff, you will be required to stay overnight in a boarding flat so you can be readily available to support students, handle emergencies, and generally maintain a safe and supportive environment after regular school hours.   It is, however, rare for there to be emergencies during the night.

Single accommodation is available. Local applicants may prefer to be non-residential, residing only when on duty.  Many of our staff live on site, we have fifty residential properties spread around the grounds, and RMS has a strong family ethos. For those who want the bright lights, thirty minutes on the tube will get you to Central London, and for those who don’t, a walk around our 300 acres of parkland on a summer evening is hard to beat.

This role may be appealing not only to experienced boarding staff, but also to those open to experiencing boarding for the first time and who are wishing to challenge themselves to achieve their full potential. Job share would be considered.

The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) is an independent day and boarding school with a supportive and nurturing ethos. RMS boarders enjoy a lively and varied programme of activities and benefit from outstanding pastoral care.
