We are looking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Head of Boarding to assist the Head of Boarding in all aspects of the running of the boarding house to create a safe, well-ordered, warm and friendly environment for the boarders to live in.

Main Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead and develop the boarding team, including leading house staff appraisals.
  • Contribute towards the planning and delivery of a wide range of sporting and social activities, as well as trips.
  • Monitor and evaluate all boarding policies ensuring compliance with NMS and all other statutory regulations.
  • Assist managing for the preparation of the boarding house for inspection.
  • Participate in School INSET meetings and whole school events.
  • Assist in promoting and marketing the school’s boarding offering.
  • Ensure that house staff, parents, and pupils understand the aims and objectives of boarding and the principles on which community life in the House is based.
  • Liaise as necessary with other members of staff, tutors, parents and guardians on matters relating to the welfare of boarding pupils.
  • Liaise with Tutors and Heads of Year regarding pupils’ academic progress.
  • Manage and support all house staff in performing their duties in the House.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Deputy Head (Pastoral).
  • Keep accurate records of disciplinary and pastoral incidents relating to pupils in their boarding house.
  • Take responsibility for monitoring the location of boarders through roll calls via a signing in and out system and the monitoring of holiday arrangements.
  • Lead regular meetings within the boarding house.
  • Liaise with Marketing and Admissions to ensure that the Boarding Handbook is kept up to date.
  • Deputise for the Head of Boarding.
  • Oversee the medical needs of the pupils in the absence of the School Nurse.
  • The Assistant Head of Boarding must comply with all health and safety procedures as required by the School relevant to the role.
  • You are required to occupy the provided on-site accommodation for a minimum of five nights per week, subject to the needs of the boarding house.
