• Audience: Everyone who should read and understand part 1 of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022.  This includes staff who work directly with children in:
• Maintained schools, nursery schools and colleges
• Post 16 education settings
• 16-19 academies
• Special post 16 institutions
• Independent training providers
• Non-maintained special schools including academies, free schools, alternative provision and alternative provision academies

Whilst the above settings may choose to direct staff who have indirect contact with children to read Annex A, the condensed version of Part 1 of KCSIE, this group of staff also access Part 1 in many best practice settings.

A new version of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) will come into force on 1 September. 2022

Trustees, Governing bodies and proprietors should ensure that those staff who work directly with children read and demonstrate an understanding of the content of Part one of KCSIE and that staff who do not work directly with children read either Part one or Annex A.

This webinar covers the content of Part 1 of KCSIE22 using case study examples.  A scenario-based learning evidence pack is available for delegates to complete and to be retained by DSL’s to evidence understanding of content and application and to identify any areas of development.

Training topics will include

• A child centred and coordinated approach to safeguarding
• The role of school and college staff, why is all of this important?
• What school and college staff need to know
• What school and college staff should look out for
• What school and college staff should do if they have concerns about a child
• Record keeping
• What school and college staff should do if they have a safeguarding / low-level concern or an allegation about another staff member
• What school or college staff should do if they have concerns about safeguarding practices within the school or college

Learning outcomes

• Participants will understand key elements of safeguarding practice and taking a child-centred approach
• Participants will be clear about their role and responsibility within the school and wider safeguarding system, why it is important and what else they need to know about their school, nursery or college safeguarding system
• Through use of learning evidence pack, participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding and recognition of the signs and indicators which may raise safeguarding concerns including specific safeguarding situations
• Through use of learning evidence pack, participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the actions they should take if they have concerns about a child and an appreciation for the correct record keeping practices
• Through use of learning evidence pack, participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding of appropriate and unsafe staff conduct and behaviour and what they should do in respect of allegations and low-level concerns
• Through use of learning evidence pack, participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the procedures open to them should they have a concern about safeguarding practices within the school, nursery or college.

Speaker: Claire Dan. Head of Safeguarding, Sacpa and BSA Group

Claire is Head of Safeguarding for the Sacpa and BSA Group, leading on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare, youth justice, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Since 2006, Claire has been involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training, pieces of bespoke consultancy work, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.
