- Audience: This training day is designed for pastoral and medical staff in boarding schools who have responsibilities for managing and or administering medication for pupils in schools.

Course outline:
This course will be delivered by an experienced Pharmacist trainer from OPUS. The βSupporting Pupilsβ guidance advises that βall school staff should have sufficient trainingβ in medicines handling.
This seminar will provide an overview of the safe procedures for handling medicines within school & when out on school trips, and will focus on ways to reduce medicines errors in schools.
The seminar will include case studies and activities throughout.

Learning outcomes:
- To give delegates an introduction of how to manage, store, administer, dispose and record
different forms of medicines for pupils in schools - To update delegates on the latest guidance and legislation in handling medicines in schools and the related training and competency requirements
- To signpost delegates to accredited medicines training and resources for schools, in order to upskill their staff team
- To empower delegates to lead by example back in their school setting, to promote best
practice and ensure exceptional care with medicines is provided to all pupils they support

Speaker:
Rowena Tague, Professional Support Pharmacist, OPUS
Rowena Tague, is a Professional Support Pharmacist for OPUS. She has worked for OPUS for three years and in that time she has provided medicines training to a variety of care settings and schools. As part of her role, she also undertakes independent medicines audits, prepare training courses for OPUS and write, review & update medicines policies and procedures for a range of organisations. Prior to working for OPUS, she was a community Pharmacist for over 35 years. The main focus of her work has always been supporting different care settings including schools with their medicines.
