New to the role: school nurses

Course outline:

This virtual seminar is an introduction for new Nurses entering the world of day and boarding independent school nursing and for practising School Nurses to broaden their knowledge. The day will offer the opportunity to meet other Nurses working in similar settings as well as learning where and how to access key guidance and information to run a Medical Centre within a school.ย 

The content is specific to the independent school environment and focuses on life outside NHS or private medical provision. Attending this training will help Nurses moving into the environment familiarise themselves with processes, procedures and responsibilities unique to the sector.ย 

Training topics will include:

  • Safeguarding
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Policies and protocols (medicines management)
  • Confidentiality and consent
  • Relevant Standards for Boarding Inspections and the wider role.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand nursing and the role of nurses in the school settingย 
  • To promote high standards of care for all childrenย 
  • To work within the guidance required in the UK.ย

Speaker:

Rosie McManus, Nurse Advisor, HIEDA

Trained at Great Ormond Street, Rosie made the move to the independent sector in 2006.ย  With an MA in Medical Ethics and Law and the Specialist Community Pubic Health Nurse qualification her passion remains promoting the Healthy Child Programme, and promoting the visibility of school nurses in the independent sector.
