Course outline
Mental health is a deeply personal and universally relevant issue, shaped significantly by the identities we hold and the experiences we navigate. For many, aspects of identity – whether visible or invisible – can influence mental well-being, particularly in the face of discrimination, exclusion, or feeling like the ‘only one’ in a space.
This conference explores the complex relationship between mental health and identity, examining how lived experiences—including those of marginalisation, prejudice, and identity-based trauma – can affect mental well-being. We’ll discuss how shifting, multifaceted identities can create unique challenges and sources of distress, and why an understanding of these dynamics is essential for effective support.
Participants will gain insights into how to meaningfully support the mental health of individuals within diverse communities, with a focus on recognising and honouring each person’s unique identity.
