The High School, Truro, raises more than £7000 for children’s education in Cambodia

The High School, Truro has presented a cheque for £7146.52 to the charity Edukid to provide an education for children in underprivileged communities in Cambodia.

Students at the school took part in a fantastic colour run to raise the cash which will be used to help ensure the future of education at Brasat Primary.

Visiting the school this week, Chris Turner from Edukid updated students about the work the charity’s been doing, and how the money raised will be used to educate 26 girls and 18 boys for at least another year.

Headmistress Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “What an amazing spectacle the colour run was and such a fabulous way for the girls to have fun with their friends whilst raising money! Without our annual fundraising efforts, Brasat would simply not be able to educate all of its pupils and some of the children would join many others in Cambodia who never have the opportunity to complete their primary school education.”

“As members of a global community, I believe it is important that our students develop an awareness and understanding of how different things are for young people in some other parts of the world so I hope they’ve had a fantastic time secure in the knowledge that their efforts have made a real difference to a young person’s education.”

Fewer than half of all children are able to finish primary school in Cambodia, and The High School’s students raise money every year to ensure that’s not the case at Brasat Primary.

Excitingly, this October some members of the school’s Sixth Form students will travel out to Cambodia to work alongside Edukid and make a real difference to the communities they assist.
