Plymouth College Announce Appointment of New Head of Prep School

Posted: 16th March 2022

The Governors and Head, Jo Hayward, are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Huw Thomas to the post of Head of Prep School at Plymouth College from September 2022.

Mr Thomas is currently Director of Operations & Co-Curricular at Sherborne Prep School, where he has been employed since 2016. Mr Thomas brings with him a wealth of experience, having also been Housemaster and Director of Rugby at Glenalmond College, Perth and Assistant Master at Blundell’s School. Both pupils and staff were impressed with Mr Thomas’s enthusiasm and positivity during the interview process and he clearly has numerous ideas to bring to the Prep School.

Mr Thomas says of his appointment:

‘I am truly thrilled about the prospect of joining the Plymouth College family in September. There is a striking sense of warmth and community within both the Prep School and the College that is evident from the moment you set foot on the campus. Spending time with the children during the process was an absolute joy and I can’t wait to join the team and take on the leadership of the Prep from September. There are some hugely exciting plans in place for the continued development of the site and the growing connectivity across the whole age range, which mark this out as an exciting time for the School. I hope to bring a great deal of energy, personality and a real willingness to enhance the culture and environment at the Prep School – so that the pupils in our care continue to flourish and reach their potential. ‘

The Prep School relocated in September 2021 to new facilities at the existing Senior School site at Ford Park, which brought the two schools together on one site, a long held ambition for the school. The move has proved a great success, with the youngest pupils now able to access extensive science, music and sporting facilities, as well as enabling shared teaching to ensure a seamless transition from Year 6 into Year 7. Older pupils have also developed a mentoring programme for the Prep children and the strong sense of community at Plymouth College has grown even stronger as a result.

We are delighted Mr Thomas will be joining us at our Prep Discovery Morning on Saturday 26th March 2022, where he hopes to meet new families who will be exploring our wonderful new facility and learning more about all that is on offer at Plymouth College Preparatory School for children aged 3-11 years.
