St Peter’s School Choir Travel to Edinburgh to Relaunch St Mary’s Cathedral’s Visiting Choir Programme

Posted: 7th March 2022

The Chapel Choir from St Peter’s School, York, travelled to Edinburgh earlier this week to sing Evensong at St Mary’s Cathedral. They were the first visiting choir to sing at St Mary’s since the beginning of the pandemic.

The choir sang music by Ayleward, Walmisley and Edward Bairstow, a former organist of York Minster, as part of St Mary’s Cathedral’s Evensong service on Monday 28 February.

Mr Paul Miles-Kingston, Director of Music at St Peter’s School, said: “We have not sung at St Mary’s Cathedral for over twenty years, so it is good to renew this connection. Our sincere thanks to all the choir and the staff that supported them on the day. The Provost and Sub-Provost of St Mary’s were very positive about our singing and have asked us to return in the future.”

St Peter’s School, York, has one of the largest and most diverse school music departments in the country. It is also the choir school for York Minster.
