Christ’s Hospital Pupils Crowned Chess Champions

Posted: 2nd March 2022

On 23 of February, five pupils from years 7-12 represented Christ’s Hospital School at the City of London Schools’ annual chess tournament held at Guildhall in London. The Christ’s Hospital players managed to beat competition and bring home the cup as the overall winners of the secondary schools’ competition.

The tournament brings together chess enthusiasts from various City schools to have fun putting their chess skills into practice while competing against each other over the board. Head Teacher of Christ’s Hospital, Simon Reid, said: ‘Having practised hard at the school’s chess club, as well as in their own free time, it was wonderful to see our pupils’ hard work paying off. We are very proud of their achievement!’

Christ’s Hospital was founded in 1552 in the City of London for fatherless and other poor children. The school moved to Horsham in 1902 but retains both its charitable ethos and its strong links with the City of London.
