Leweston Prep have a Dress To Express day for Children’s Mental Health Week!

As part of Children’s Mental Health Week 2022, Leweston Prep hosted a ‘Dress To Express’ day where pupils were encouraged to get creative and express themselves through colourful clothes.

For this year’s theme Express Yourself, Place2Be is encouraging children (and adults) to explore the different ways you can express yourself, and the creative ways that pupils can share their feelings, their thoughts and their ideas.

At Leweston Prep, they are proud to offer exceptional pastoral care, and offer dedication to pupil’s well-being is exemplified by the mental health provision they offer. They have a fully qualified ‘Mental Health First Aider’ in the Prep School, and all staff members have been trained to identify the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns as well as how to help.
Prep 1 Teacher, Miss Barlett, shared her views on Mental Health, as a Mental Health Coordinator at Leweston Prep and how pupils can come together to be more aware of the meaning of mental health in her blog, on Leweston School’s website.

Prep 3 spent some time talking about feelings and emotional wellbeing. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is ‘Growing Together’. The pupils discussed the different types of feelings they have, how to be aware of other people’s feelings and how to handle difficult situations. They were then asked to think of a personal goal linked to their emotional growth and they wrote their goal onto a star; these stars will be part of a whole school display. The pupils then finished the session with some lively singing and dancing to ‘Reach for the Stars’ by S Club 7!

The pupils have spent the week exploring different activities and discussing the different types of feelings they have, how to be aware of other people’s feelings and how to handle difficult situations.

It was fantastic to see all the pupils dressed up in unicorn wigs and bright colours, with big smiles on their faces!
