An athlete from King’s Bruton won a bronze medal running for
Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the European Junior Championships.
Elliot Rutter, 17 at the time of the championships, was a
member of the successful 4 x 400 m relay squad competing in Rieti, Italy in
His selection for the squad followed an outstanding gold
medal winning performance in the 400 metres at the English Schools
Championships in Birmingham.
At the time of Elliot’s selection, Richard Bowden, senior
team manager for Somerset Schools’ Athletics Association, said he was
“absolutely delighted”, adding his success was particularly impressive because
Elliot didn’t belong to a club and had therefore been totally trained by the
