King’s Bruton athlete wins bronze at the European Junior Championships
26th September 2013

An athlete from King’s Bruton won a bronze medal running for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the European Junior Championships.

Elliot Rutter, 17 at the time of the championships, was a member of the successful 4 x 400 m relay squad competing in Rieti, Italy in July.

His selection for the squad followed an outstanding gold medal winning performance in the 400 metres at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham.

At the time of Elliot’s selection, Richard Bowden, senior team manager for Somerset Schools’ Athletics Association, said he was “absolutely delighted”, adding his success was particularly impressive because Elliot didn’t belong to a club and had therefore been totally trained by the school.

Elliot said: "I was thrilled to be selected and even more thrilled to win the bronze medal. I don't belong to a club, partly because I've always found the training at King’s to be everything that I could possibly want. I'm really grateful for all the help, encouragement and support I have received."
