Millfield Swimmer selected for British Swimming World Class Programme
9th October 2020

Millfield swimmer Tamryn van Selm has been selected for the British Swimming World Class Programme amongst the best swimmers in the country.

Lower Sixth Tamryn has been selected for the Great Britain Podium Potential programme which provides opportunities through access to training camps, competitions, funding, sports science and medical services as well as support from British Swimming performance staff and the national institute of sport programmes across the UK.

Tamryn will train and benefit from the programme alongside OM Brodie Williams, who will join her on the Podium Potential programme, and OMs James Guy and Cameron Kurle who have been selected for the Podium Programme.

Alongside her commitment to swimming, 17-year-old Tamryn from Greater London is studying three A levels in Maths, Biology and PE. Her ambition is to continue representing Great Britain at Junior and Senior level in competitions such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games with the ultimate goal of competing in the Olympics.

Having started at Millfield earlier this term and boarding for the first time, Tamryn says “coming to Millfield I know that I will be challenged and that I will have more opportunities to develop as an athlete, with the amazing facilities that Millfield has to offer as well as the support from my coaches and teammates. I think it is important to be able to be pushed in training but to also be in an atmosphere that makes the tough sessions fun and enjoyable, and I am so excited to train in an environment that replicates that at Millfield for the next couple of years!”

53 athletes have been selected for the British Swimming World-Class programme for the 2020-21 season including Adam Peaty, MBE who has represented Great Britain competitively across the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships and England in the Commonwealth Games.
