Millfield Prep squash star wins Japanese, Chinese and Korean Squash U11 Opens
16th September 2019

Millfield Prep Year 6 pupil Shunsaku Kariyazono from Japan has had an incredible summer of squash after winning the Japanese, Chinese and Korean Squash Open tournaments in the U11 age group. Ten-year-old Shunsaku trains six times a week at Millfield Prep, where the school has a comprehensive Squash Programme that encompasses Physical Education lessons, fun lunchtime and after school sessions. The school also offers sessions for younger pupils at Millfield, overseen by Millfield’s Director of Squash, Ian Thomas, where aspiring performance level players can access the Millfield Squash programme.

There are four squash courts attached to the Sports Hall on the Millfield Prep campus, and individual private coaching is available on a daily basis.

Millfield’s Director of Squash, Ian Thomas, says, “Shun’s focus and determination is quite unusual at this age, married with his ability to absorb information and ask questions; he is a pleasure to work with and a champion of the future.”

Shun is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Millfield squash players Mohamed Elshorbagy (former World Number 1) and his brother Marwan (former World Number 3), who regularly return to Millfield to train.

Millfield Prep’s next Open Day is Saturday 5 October 2019.
