The school held its first ever Year 7-10 Speech Day on Friday, May 24, which saw a large crowd gather at the refurbished Memorial Hall to mark another hugely eventful academic year across all departments.
Julian Barnes, Chair of Governors at Rydal Penrhos, kicked off proceedings with a welcoming address, before the school’s Chaplain, the Reverend Nick Sissons, led the congregation in an opening prayer.
Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding then took the pulpit for her speech as part of the event, with the Choir also lending their support to the celebration with a rendition of ‘If Ye Love Me’ by Thomas Tallis.
Teacher John Murphy then announced a significant number of prize recipients, and special guest Mike Leach gave a memorable address that drew a superb ovation from those in attendance.
Year 10 pupil Juan Rajagopal then dazzled the crowd with a sensational Piano solo, with outgoing Head Boy Nick Fiorita and Head Girl Gowri Pradeep also taking the stage for a thoroughly entertaining speech.
The event concluded with the Welsh national anthem and an Irish blessing sang by the Choir.
Mrs Harding, said: “It was a very special Year 7-10 Speech Day that was full of memorable moments and outstanding performances.
“Each year group have achieved a considerable amount over the past few month and were thoroughly deserving of all the plaudits coming their way, and I would like to express my gratitude to Mike Leach for agreeing to be the special guest.”
