Millfield footballer selected for England Ladies U15 team
16th April 2019

Millfield Year 9 pupil Lauren Pickup has been selected to play for the Lionesses, the U15 England Ladies Football team, this coming Easter in Belgium.

This will be Lauren’s first England Cap for the Lionesses. Lauren has also been signed with Chelsea Football Club Women for the past three years.

Fourteen-year-old Lauren, who boards at Millfield and also attended Millfield Prep, is on the FA Girls’ England Talent Pathway towards playing for the England Senior Women’s Team. A keen scientist, Lauren hopes to pursue a career in professional football or as a Zoo Veterinarian.

Girls’ football at Millfield has seen a number of successes in recent months: a number of pupils have been selected for the Independent Schools’ Football Association (ISFA) girls representative programmes for both U15 and U16 teams, and the Millfield U16 girls’ team have also recently reached the final of the Somerset County Cup.

Millfield’s Director of Football, Terry Akhurst, says, “Lauren’s selection is fantastic news for both her development and Millfield Football. We want Millfield to be a place where pupils can develop and grow in and outside of the classroom, and I hope Lauren’s success inspires other girls and boys to continue to pursue their dreams, in which ever field.”
