Job Description:

Primary French Teacher

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, qualified & experienced Primary French Teacher for our Primary children aged from 3 years to 11 years, to enhance our team of dedicated Primary educators. The BSL Primary School is part of a friendly International School, passionate about providing an engaging, vibrant and innovative French language learning programme for all our young learners. This includes learners from Francophone families as well as learners for whom French is a Foreign Language.

Although the BSL Primary currently follows the UK curriculum, we have a contemporary approach to enquiry-based learning where all our children are nurtured to flourish personally, culturally, emotionally, and socially. We are looking to implement the PYP in the Primary School within the next two years and our language policy is currently being enhanced to reflect the ethos and aspirations of the IB programme. Our new Primary French teacher must be passionate about providing innovative and creative lessons to engage learners of all levels and to support their progress. Our Primary learners are taught in groups according to their language ability and the BSL Language Department is very strong. In the Secondary School our learners achieve the highest levels in their Cambridge International IGCSEs and also in the IB Diploma programme.

About us:

The British School of Lomé is located in a very safe, leafy area of the capital city of Togo about 20 minutes’ drive from the sea. The school is well-established and enjoys an excellent reputation in Togo, in West Africa and globally. BSL has always been an inclusive school and our motto is ‘Endeavour is all.’ Our academic and behavioural expectations are high, and we encourage all students to give of their best in all areas of school life. We see BSL as not only, ‘The Gateway to University’, but also as The Gateway to a rich and rewarding future life, in all its aspects and the foundations for this are laid in our expanding Nursery & Primary School.

BSL is an affiliate member of the Boarding School Association, and we are currently updating and expanding our boarding facilities. The International Duke of Edinburgh Award is well established at BSL, and our students enjoy contributing to service activities, learning new skills, doing a wide range of sporting activities and participating in Camping trips and adventurous journeys in the hilly regions of Togo. Our application to become a member of the internationally renowned Round Square School organisation is in its final stages.

BSL has a well-established and authorised IBDP programme and offers Cambridge IGCSE’s in the Secondary School. The Primary school currently offers the UK curriculum and is in the process of developing the PYP teaching and learning strategies and practices to become a PYP accredited Primary School.

Togo is one of the fastest growing economies in West Africa, as a result of this, the international community is growing, and we anticipate this expansion to be reflected in the school numbers.

Our BSL alumni live and work all over the world and many of them have won international awards and are leaders in their field. In September 2023 we are looking forward to seeing many of them join us to help us celebrate our 40th anniversary of the founding of BSL.

At BSL we know that our Language Teachers have a crucial role to play in building essential language learning and communication skills for our BSL learners which will be of value for them for the rest of their lives. The contributions of our language teachers are appreciated and valued immensely throughout the school.
